I am writing this response because I feel we may just be near the change line we all desire to be. I will appreciate if you understand from the beginning of this article that I am not a supporter of any man that sets out to harass another- whether man or woman. I frown at cases of bully and oppression and as far as I understand myself, I am not an advocate of immorality.
I will not forget to sympathize with you, on account of our ladies that became victims of rape in recent days in our country. I read the news too, and I know what landlords and some supposed men of God do to our minors. I hate it and I always imagine that I am in a position of power so I can make these people understand the seriousness of their heinous, ungodly actions.
As much as a sane man should fight for the right of an oppressed citizen- like the raped young women- of this country, he should also check if he is fighting the right cause. As much as the bestial attitude of these greedy men across our states need be condemned, certain things are also to be noticed by our young ladies who care about their dignity and virginity.
I have several times raised my voice, addressing the mode of dressing of females in the present day society. I have always known and said that immoral or indecent dressing is a major cause aiding the continuity of rape in our society. It is very difficult for a lady to show a man ‘free movie’ of her sensitive body parts and expect nothing to happen thereafter. How long do you think our men can endure looking away from the attractive things some ladies carelessly display to them? How long can they wait to have a taste, pardon my way of questioning?
You frowned at the landlord for advancing to harass or successfully harassing your friend, Karen Eloke Young, but did you bother asking how your friend appeared to this landlord? Did you bother to inquire what her dress was like; skimpy, thigh-revealing or cleavage-exposing? Did you bother to ask what welled the secretion of the testosterone in the man for him to have resulted to such hateful act? Did you?
I beg you, sister, before you accuse men of not respecting the race of women, before you call them ‘beasts’, try look at ladies’ appearance in the society today. Try imagining the lustful looks casted on them, all because of their carelessness in dressing. Stop accusing men or shifting blames on anyone; take all as fault of the careless and shameless one among women. I beg to give you an assignment; do a small research on possibility of getting harassed or raped using morally dressed and indecently dressed ladies as case studies. Then you will understand what a lady’s dressing mean if she needs to overcome the challenge of harassment.
I have always said that a good not meant for sale is better kept away from the display tray. If you do not want men running after you to have a taste of your endowment, why not hide it from their sight? It is important to say that God created women with sensitive parts of body; parts that can initiate reactions in men that are hard to terminate. The best to keep a society peaceful and free of predator-prey relationships amongst men and women is to keep these sensitive areas in safe places.
If women go overseas to import foreign cultures and dressing styles, forsaking their good local way of life, they should also be ready to endure the challenges that spur thereafter. African culture is not based on immoralities; it was after some Africans started poke-nosing that wearing underwear outside the house became the norm.
If you really want to stop rape, talk to yourselves; dress morally
